The start of Mikes Marine
When his father retired in 1987 and sold the shop he started working for a marine wrecker and bought Hibiscus Coast Outboard Spares in 1990 which was then renamed Mikes Marine Centre.
In wrecking he learnt the mechanics of the outboards from the inside out and in 1996 moved Mikes Marine Centre to the top of Silverdale hill and branched out to New Boat and engine packages. Mercury was our choice of engine as from a mechanical point of view they were superior to other engines. These high quality marine engines have served us well to this day.
We ran out of space very quickly in the small yard and moved to our current Mikes Marine Silverdale location in 2002.
James came on board part time during school and university holidays and started working full time in 2005. Now as a team Mike and James run the workshop.
James has a passion for anything with an engine. This has served him well while working in the family business.
He has also developed a love of photography and drones, which keeps him busy outside of work hours.
With most of the boat manufacturers now selling direct we have shifted our focus since 2015 to specialising in service, repowering with new Mercury Marine engines and selling quality second-hand boats and engines.
We treat each boat as if it were our own, our advice is based on our years of experience whether it be for service or sales, and we will always recommend what we believe is best for the customer and their boat, in other words we make sure we are giving the customer the best advice to suit their boating requirements.
